Jargo is still up on blocks in the yard called Dockland 5. It is the best yard I’ve ever seen as the owners don’t want to do anything, but help you get your boat fixed and get back into the water. Everything you need is on site and if you need help options abound. It is a good feeling to be surrounded by boats all getting refits so that the can once again head to sea. Jargo is no exception.
Hauling out revealed more bottom work than I wanted to admit I’d need. A good sanding revealed several blisters that I’ll repair, fair, and barrier cote before adding new antifouling bottom paint. The rudder had to be dropped so that I could pull the propeller, prop shaft, cutlass bearing, propeller shaft coupler, propeller stuffing box, and rudder stuffing box. All these parts are being renewed or replaced. While the rudder is down I am strengthening some small cracks around the 1.5 inch rudder shaft and reglassing and sealing the shoe that holds the rudder to the keel. The bolts when removed have shown some elongation. The propeller was so welded to its coupler that no amount of WD40, heat, cold, or leverage would free it. After a days effort I resorted to a saws all and a hacksaw blade to cut my prop shaft. Job done, reassembly can begin when the new coupler arrives.
My buddy Chris from the s/v Mooneshine and I have all but finished the standing rig project. Every stay is on except for the triatic along with the new Harken roller furling unit. It is a huge relief have that project off the list. Nothing is set in stone, but there is an outside chance I’ll do the Pacific run again by sailing along the edge of the Southern Ocean at 35 – 40*S back to Tahiti.
If anyone is looking for a cheap, go anywhere, offshore capable cruising boat here is one for sale. This is the center cockpit version of my own beloved vessel, Jargo. Allied did nice work with these boats and this one has the nice white laminate instead of the crappy fake wood stuff I am slowly recovering. I’d make the sale contingent upon an acceptable survey, but if the $3,000 is solid with the refit this could make a good boat. Please, don’t bid on the form below. Go back to ebay where I copied this from. Cheers,
Lee

Re: Cheap Cruising Boat For Sale: The Allied Mistress Center Cockpit A few quick comments on this boat. I like what I see with the twin furling headsails and what looks like behind the mast furling main. If the rigging is original it will have to be replaced, but that isn't such a bad DIY job if the sticks and gear are in good shape.Secondly, forget all the electronics that are on this boat. The look very old and at the end of their service life. Clean them all out including the wiring harness and start from scratch clean. WTF? Why is the DC panel in the head? Finally, replace or rebuild the old Perkins 4108/4107 or repower with new and clean up the engine room. Incredible access, but the job also really needs to be done from scratch.
