3000 Pacific Passage Miles to Fatu HIva, Marquesas

A year ago yesterday I was sitting at The Split beach bar in Belize. Today, 365 days and 6000 sea miles later I am in a world that doesn't seem real. The sunlight is thick and golden, colors are vivid and soft, the earth has a cartoonish beauty, and the sea is deep, blue, and clear with a stickyness that makes water move more slowly. After 21 days at sea I sit still on the boat soaking in the beauty that surrounds me. I fear touching it afraid it will fade before me like a dreamscape that only dissolves the harder you try to hang onto it.

I've made landfall in the islands of dreams in the South Pacific.

Hi, Lee, I hadn´t had the opportunity to check out the ship´s log since you went through the canal. Am glad to see you finally made your destination and made it safely. In one of your logs you noted that there is a price to be paid for a trip of this journey. I know somewhat, though, not totally how you feel. Though you can keep up with family and friends through occasional phone calls, emails, blog messages, it can also feel in some respects though the world is moving on without you and you wonder if you'll ever fit into ¨that¨ world again when you arrive. I've only been gone 10 months now, but I'm feeling that whole where-is-my-place-in-this-world. I'm sure you're glad to be back in the company of humans again (though I'm sure Georgia is a wonderful companion; I've inherited a dog of my own and she's become my best friend). Feeling a twinge of loneliness myself in a country where the language barrier at times still feels insurmountable, I applaud your ability to go solo for so long.

Buena suerte y buen viaje, amigo,
Cheri

hope you're not the guest of the gendarmerie. Maybe the "bay of virgins" turned out to be appropriately named and you are too busy to update.
