Comms Test - Iridium to Blog

Just testing my comms before departure. Thank you everyone who has started commenting on the blog, facebook, and twitter. I can't tell you how much the words of encouragement and support mean to me. Please keep them coming! Just filled the boat with 65 gallons of diesel and 70 gallons of water. Finishing up the lose ends on a few projects including the sailomat, prop lock, and general cleaning and stowing today and tomorrow. Still looking to provision with fresh produce on Monday and set sail on Tuesday. Looks like some good winds heading this way that should get me at least 1/3 or 1/2 way to Galapagos. First jump, 900 nautical miles from Panama City to Galapagos non stop. Expecting a passage in the 7 - 10 day range depending on when or if I pick up the trades, location of the doldrums, and condition and speed of the Humboldt current.

The nerves have settled and now it is just a matter of heaving the anchor one more time and pointing the bow of Jargo West. Hope this blog posts....Cheers,

Lee

It seems that everything you do leads either you or someone else to good things. We love you and feel this crossing will be good.

Hey Lee.

I'm glad to see that you are still on the quest, doing what you want to do. Since St Patty's Day is this week a Irish Blessing for your crossing:

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
And rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

I'll be toasting you with a Guinness.

Good luck in your crossing

Gary

Re: Comms Test - Iridium to Blog

Lee -- Take some time to see the Galapagos Islands. I spent a week there and it wasn't nearly enough. It is a very amazing place. Please note that on one of the islands there is a "mail box" that has been active from the early years of wooden sailing vessels. Prepare a number of letters for the mail box. Visitors will go through the mail box and find letters addressed to their hometown to take them back with them. When we did it, one guy had a lady contact his mother and deliver the letter in person. The lady also visited with his mother and showed her pictures of her trip. All of this happened before we arrived back home from our trip. Also, be sure to leave some type of carving of your boat name there. Fair winds and safe sailing. I will be following your adventures. -- Cheryl

Good luck & fair winds. maybe you'll be lucky enough to see some whales--at a reasonable distance! You'll do great and remember: there's nothing wrong with talking out loud to yourself!
have fun!

Lee-
Have a wonderful time. I will continue to read your blog and think of you on your journey. I would love to see the Galapagos. I was in Ecuador a couple years ago but didn't feel I had the time to do the Galapagos justice, so stayed mainly in the mountains for 3 weeks. What a beautiful country!
