Two days later the forecast for the front coming down this weekend has changed unfavorably. Like the previous four fronts, this one is going to clock around too fast for me to get far enough south. That means I’d only get about a day and a half of favorable NE winds before the strong SE to S return flow would be blowing on my nose. It’s not easy sitting here waiting on the weather, but I am mostly comfortable and probably need to learn to have more patience anyway. I do need a plan though.
The crew of SOEL are back tomorrow and I may entice them to dinner so I can swipe their cruising guide to the Inter Coastal Waterway. It’s a big ditch that runs from here all the way around the Atlantic seaboard to Main. I really don’t want to run the ditch, but it may not be a bad option considering the general lack of other options. Another thought is to start making jumps down the Texas coast towards Mexico. This would mean a much slower journey to the Yucatan, but hey, it’s supposed to be a journey, right?
Don’t ask me why, but I don’t think I’ll really feel like I’ve started this journey until I am being forced to speak Spanish on a daily basis. Or, at a minimum, get the hell out of Galveston Bay and surrounding waters. In the short term, I need to find a Laundromat. I don’t have enough cold weather clothes to go weeks on end. I had to chase my jeans around the boat this morning. I finally got the fish gaff out and hooked ‘em, but it’s time. Anyone know a place around 61st and Broadway in Galveston?
