Damn you Murphy.  Two fronts ago I wasn’t ready, but the perfect system blew through.  It was two weak fronts just barely making it south, but as the first one stalled the second gave it a little reinforcement and pushed it on down to Campeche.  It would have been ideal.  Once I was ready, this big bastard just blew through.  While I wish I was underway it was the right choice to let this one go.  The crazy thing is, now that I am even more ready, the models don’t show a single new front developing until sometime after December 27th.  That means nothing but crappy, cloudy, soup like weather.  Don’t let the writing fool you, I’m actually in great spirits.

I’ve been looking at charts and places on maps I’ve been wanting to visit.  It would take awhile, but I could use the steady southern flow over the next few weeks to make a course for Key West.  I would be windward sailing to make it, but once there it would give me an easy run using the prevailing easterly or southeasterly trades down to Isla instead of waiting for the perfect front to come blowing through.  Or, I could close reach in the steady SE winds predicted for the next 4 – 5 days and make Veracruz, Mexico then coast hop around to Campeche and Isla Mujeres.

What I don’t like is the sleet that is falling on my boat right now.  It’s time to make some southing.  Oh yeah, I strung my lee cloth just for kicks.  I think it’ll work great.
