Tension, Analysis, Action

Dec 5

Somewhere, someone said that a good plan well executed was far better than the perfect plan never realized.  People are afraid for my safety and I understand why.  It’s not hard to step back from what I am doing and look at it from an outside perspective.  I can see what many people think of this trip because it is written all over their faces when speaking to them.  Since Thanksgiving I’d let some of the fear, uncertainty, and doubt (a.k.a. FUD) of others invade my thought process.  It really got a hold of me and has kept me from being anywhere near as productive as I wanted to be.  I got over that today.

Before Thanksgiving I made an appointment with a local ship yard to get the boat hauled out of the water for a quick power wash, hull inspection, and zinc replacement.  That appointment forced my hand and made me get busy prepping the boat to leave the slip tomorrow morning, even if it is only for a few hours.  Somehow it is incredibly easy to forget that only constant and dedicated action towards your goal gets you over the FUD that is always lurking ready to scuttle a plan.

If, and it is a big if, I leave on Tuesday that gives me three full days to finish prepping this boat for a five to six day crossing across the Gulf of Mexico.  It feels good to be working my ass off again getting ready.  I say if because right now this front is forecast to be a big one.  That’s good in that it could get me all the way to Campeche before the North winds blow out, but bad in that the seas will be rough with 8 – 10 foot swells and steady 30 knot winds.  It might be more than I want even with the light of the full moon.  We’ll see how it develops over the next day or two.
