When I got back to the boat I found a mess the size of which is impossible to convey. Knowing I’d no longer have a truck I put everything on board the boat that could be bought in bulk since I’d no longer have readily available transportation. That worked great, but all I’ve done since I got home was get things repackaged for storage, labeled, and stowed on the boat. Since most of this stuff didn’t exist on the boat before I am having to find places for everything that will be handy when needed later on.
The wind as been out of the north for the past two days and all but the most shallow of boats are sitting in the mud, including Jargo. North winds push all of our water offshore. The weather pattern I am looking for is going to be a bitter sweet deal. My course is generally SSE from here to Campeche, Mexico which is also the prevailing wind direction with one exception. Every few days a norther blows through bringing higher north winds, cold dry air, and a choppy swell that sets against the Yucatan/Gulf current. I need to ride one of these northers down to Mexico in order to avoid tacking back and forth against the prevailing SSE winds.
Although I am anxious to get under way I keep telling myself I am in no hurry, and I am not. I cancelled the flight I’d booked from Panama back to the USA in March and rebooked it out of San Pedro Sula, Honduras. This means I only have to cover about half of the distance I’d been originally planning in my first three months. I’ll be able to give Mexico, Belize, and Honduras a month or more each. Here is to watching the weather.
