I am burn out on boat projects. I’ve been upgrading, renewing, and rebuilding this 39 foot vessel for two years. I’ve hit something of a wall. The question always lingers, “Am I ready”?
The truth is all the books, all the spare parts, all the time, and all the money go to preparing for eventualities that may never come to pass. I can’t know exactly what will and will not work until I start sailing this boat on a more regular basis. What I do know is that I know the boat about as well as one can. I have good sails, strong rigging, a working engine, and the belief I can handle the problems that are sure to arise. I know there will be problems, but I expect them and will handle them as they come. I think that makes me as ready as I will ever be.
It’s time to start switching gears. I am not digging into any more big boat projects. From tomorrow forward I am going to begin stowing and preparing the boat to leave. I need to make some room for last minute additions like dry food storage containers, sail repair kits, a parachute sea anchor, and an offshore medical kit. The next full moon is December 13th. I plan to be sailing under it on my way to Mexico. It’s time to go. I am ready.
