When I quit my job a week ago I had no idea what else was going on behind the scenes.  I tried for five days to get our HR rep on the line, but could never seem to reach here which was a little unusual.  Finally, the emergency email came out saying our team needed a conference call and there were a few names missing.  They called them preemptive layoffs.  At least five people from our organization were let go as a means to reduce costs as we prepare for the recession.  Everyone was surprisingly upbeat about it.  I tried lightening the mood even further by begging to be layed off.  That package could have funded the first year of my trip.  They wouldn’t do it.

The project continue and I finally finished getting all the new stainless steel opening ports installed.  These things are a real best to install.  First you have to remove all the old silicon bedding compound that held the old plastic ports in.  That alone is almost a day’s project.  From there, you have to cut the opening for the port, finish the exposed hole, and cut and drill for the new fasteners.  All told I think they look great and have excellent dogs to open and close them.  I can finally have ventilation whenever I want it.

I held off on blogging for a day or two so people could find the welcome blog for the new site.  I’ll start updating more frequently again.
